G5 My Little Pony Wiki

Sunny Starscout is a female Earth pony and the main protagonist of the fifth generation of My Little Pony. She is the daughter of Argyle Starshine and an unnamed mare. She represents the element of hope. She is also Izzy's first Earth pony friend.

Personality

Sunny is a curious, adventurous, and idealistic pony determined to make the world a better place. She always stands up for what she believes in and loves roller skating into new adventures. Her dream is to bring all magic and harmony back to Equestria, and make sure it stays. She is also kind and friendly, often wanting to help others including her friends.

As per her name, Sunny is a very cheerful individual and is considerably the optimist of the group, as she is always excited to do new things with her friends or doing her favorite activities - mostly running her smoothie business or working at the community garden.

Despite her arguably bubbly persona, Sunny can get annoyed at certain situations; This is evidenced in one scene from My Little Pony: A New Generation when she and Izzy Moonbow were arrested in Zephyr Heights, she made an extremely annoyed face expression when posing for a mugshot.

It is hinted that Sunny possesses some insecurities about herself; the most noticeable ones are how no one in Maretime Bay would listen to her, resulting in her feeling small, or confessing that she feels she is just a pony who causes trouble everywhere she goes. These insecurities themselves gave the implication that Sunny is suffering from self-doubt, but it is yet to be confirmed.

Appearance

Sunny is a thin, apricot-orange-coated Earth mare of average height, with lighter apricot fetlocks and coral-red inner ears. She has bright seafoam-green eyes with short lashes, magenta eyebrows, light maroon hooves, and a silky, magenta-and-purple mane and tail. Originally, her mane was kept in a side braid with two, elastic aquamarine-colored hair ties. Her cutie mark consists of a pink star with a blue-green trail, and two smaller stars on either anterior side of the large one.

After getting her Alicorn powers, Sunny gains the ability to sport a long, glowing, golden holographic horn with a pair of large feathered wings to match. In addition, she now wore her mane in a loose, swirl-like hairstyle at the bottom with rainbow-colored streaks.

While she does not wear any clothing, Sunny's only accessory is that of a turquoise sachel, which features Twilight Sparkle's embossed cutie mark on one side. Its strap features pins of Twilight, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash's cutie marks on it.

In My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, Sunny's appearance has some noticeable changes; her hooves are colored like her mane and tail, her fetlocks do not appear in her coat, and while her mane is now loose, it is kept in a low-loose ponytail with the same elastic worn in her original hairstyle.

Sunny and Argyle writing a letter

At the beginning of the movie, Sunny is shown as a filly living with her father, Argyle Starshine, in Maretime Bay. She is somewhat of an outcast; while her father tells her stories of when all pony kinds lived in harmony, the other children play games depicting Unicorns and Pegasi as evil. She has a very close and loving relationship with her father, and they stick together when other ponies disapprove of their beliefs. Sunny expresses sadness at the lack of friendship between the pony kinds, and is cheered up by her father pretending to be a unicorn. She sends out a letter attached to a lantern inviting the other pony kinds to come to Maretime Bay before falling asleep to the story of how Twilight Sparkle and her friends. As she falls asleep, she asks Argyle why the kinds aren't friends, to which he responds by assuring her that one day, perhaps they will all be reunited.

Sunny smirks at Canterlogic ANG

We next see her as an adult mare, waking up to sell smoothies across town. She sings "Gonna Be My Day" as she reaches her ultimate delivery location: Canterlogic's Headquarters. Hitch Trailblazer and Sprout forbid her from entering, reminding her that Phyllis Cloverleaf had Sunny banned from the large show taking place that day. Sunny eventually relents under the pressure, but as Sprout leaves his post, she smirks and sneaks in.

On stage, getting booed

During the show, Sunny gets onstage wearing pegasi wings and a unicorn horn and starts to protest. She ends up in the middle of an automated test showing off an array of Canterlogic's new Earth pony protection technologies. After being flung around, slimed, and thrown onto the catwalk, she still tries to deliver her speech. Phyllis counters her talking points, and Sunny gets booed off the stage. Hitch leads Sunny back to her smoothie stand.

PanicinMaretime (32)

A unicorn!

Now outside, Hitch tells Sunny that he's at the end of his rope dealing with her. She needs to choose between continuing to fight for her cause, or keeping him as a friend. He walks off, leaving Sunny to think. Some ponies run past her in a panic. Looking towards the source of the commotion, she is knocked off her feet by a rushing crowd. She is greeted by Izzy Moonbow, a Unicorn. This excites Sunny and causes the rest of the ponies to go into full panic mode. As Hitch enacts anti-Unicorn measures, Sunny helps Izzy escape to the lighthouse. Once inside, she learns that the Unicorns have lost their magic and vows to help her get it back. Hitch and Sprout arrive at the lighthouse to capture Izzy and arrest Sunny, but the two sneak off.

ToZephyr (81)

Outside of Maretime Bay, the gravity of the situation begins to sink in for Sunny, but she is distracted by Izzy explaining some of the misconceptions Unicorns have about Earth ponies. The two decide to set off to Zephyr Heights to ask the Pegasi what may have happened to the magic. Sunny reassures Izzy's unease at seeing the Pegasi and the two sing "I'm Lookin' Out For You" as they set on the trail, strengthening their bond. In the canyons outside of Zephyr Heights, she and Izzy encounter Zipp Storm performing tricks. They are asked by Zipp to keep the meeting a secret as Zoom Zephyrwing and Thunder Flap capture Izzy and Sunny.

MeetQueen (110)

In the Zephyr Heights elevator, Sunny interrogates the royal guards excitedly about magic before being distracted by the grandiosity of the city. As she is brought before the queen, Sunny notices that none of the Pegasi are flying. After Queen Haven and her daughters, Pipp Petals and Zipp, enter, Sunny attempts to ask her questions about magic, but is quickly shut down and thrown in the dungeon with Izzy.

ZephyrStation (113)

In the dungeon, Zipp comes to visit and ask them questions. Pipp interrupts and Sunny asks why no one is flying. Pipp explains that only royals can fly. After she leaves, Sunny is brought to an old balloon station by Zipp. Sunny discovers relics that imply that all pony kinds used to get along and travel to different towns. Zipp explains to them that none of the Pegasi can fly and shows off a large, destroyed stain glass window which depicts a Pegasus, the Pegasus crystal, and a Unicorn. Sunny notices that there is a missing portion and quickly finds a discarded chunk on the floor which depicts the missing Unicorn crystal. She notices that the two crystals seem to slot together and decides that it must mean that the crystals should be reunited. Sunny learns that the Pegasus crystal is owned by Queen Haven, who wears it on her crown. Zipp proposes that they create a fake crown to replace the real one and steal the crystal during Pipp's upcoming concert.

Glowinplan (284)

At the concert, Sunny and Izzy are snuck into the main hall by Zipp and wait for the Queen to arrive. They swap the crown using a decoy Izzy made, but are pursued by Cloudpuff. Sunny and Izzy run around the concert hall, running into a disguised Hitch, who has come to arrest Sunny. After Cloudpuff steals the crystal back, the two dart into a room containing a crew pony and the controls for the lights and wires. Their antics scare the pony into causing major malfunctions with the lights and wires, giving them a convenient time to escape. Zipp has fetched the crystal back, and they set off to leave, but Hitch calls attention to them. Hitch's disguise falls off, and the four ponies escape together as Pipp's lie is revealed. In the alleyway outside of Zephyr Heights, Sunny learns that the Pegasus crystal was lost in all the commotion. Thankfully, Pipp escaped the wrath of the public and brought the crystal in search of answers. The group sets off to Bridlewood in search of the Unicorn crystal.

Prancing (106)

Everypony stop!

Tensions are rising as the ponies travel through daisy fields. Hitch threatens Sunny with arrest after the journey is done, but Sunny is not very bothered. They come across a broken bridge and tensions begin to bubble over into loud arguments. Sunny yells and tries to reassure everyone that once the journey is over, everything will be okay. Izzy knocks over a tree during this and they are all able to cross safely.

Firepit (51)

At night, Sunny sits with the girls of the group by a fire. Sunny goes to a cold and fire-less Hitch to convince him to help with the cause. She assures him that she's happy that he's with them. Sunny also reassures a forlorn Izzy that magic should be restored, and it will make their journey worth it, even at the cost of the adventure ending. When Izzy explains that a lantern with a message inspired her to visit Maretime Bay, Sunny recognizes it as the letter she and Argyle had made years ago.

Fitritein (188)

#selfie #Bridlewood

At Bridlewood in Izzy's cottage, Sunny decides that disguises will help them search for the Unicorn crystal. They sing "Fit Right In" during which Sunny attempts to reassure Hitch's concerns with the plan. Walking through Bridlewood, Sunny notices that Izzy is very different in attitude from the other unicorns.

Saight (117)

Izzy leads them to the Crystal Tea Room, where Sunny interrogates a crystal expert on the status of a Unicorn crystal. The pony explains that he lost his crystals to Alphabittle Blossomforth, and Sunny talks him into a game to win the crystal. She wagers the Pegasus crystal, which concerns her friends. She reassures them that she could easily win the challenge, but is surprised to find that Alphabittle has a very elaborate game in mind. The game is a DDR-style dancing game. He tells her that she only needs to win one of three rounds in order to get the crystal. Sunny fails the first two rounds, but Pipp inspires her by telling her to feel the music ("It's Alright") and move to the beat. She successfully wins the crystal, but her fake horn falls off. Sunny takes both crystals and runs away with her friends after Hitch incites the "Bing Bong" ritual.

Failure (209)

Queen Haven and Alphabittle run into the ponies and each other, but Sunny inspires hope by telling them that she's going to bring back magic. She and Izzy unite the crystals, but nothing happens. A dejected Sunny returns the crystals to Alphabittle and Queen Haven, apologizing for causing trouble, and leaves for Maretime Bay with Hitch.

Backtomaretime (98)

Sunny goes into her house and begins to pack up her figures depicting the Guardians of Friendship and the latern her father created at the beginning of the film. When she enters the observatory, she notices a mysterious carving on the table in the center, which seem to depict the Pegasi and Unicorn crystals. She curiously paws at it before noticing the light reflecting off of the lantern, coming from a mysterious round gem in the center. She places the crystal in the center of the engraving and the table falls to create a slot for it and the other crystals to sit.

Sproutacus (138)

Hope restored, she runs into Maretime Bay and finds Hitch. She begins to explain that there's a third crystal, but is interrupted by a firework shot off in the distance near Canterlogic. They find out Sprout has risen to emperor and is out to destroy the Pegasi and Unicorns. She tries to explain to a riled-up crowd that they can bring magic back, but the crowd is swayed back to loyalty by Sprout's words of fear. Sunny and Hitch run to warn the others, while Sprout chases them in a mech.

Fightsprout (307)

Izzy, Zipp, and Pipp have run to Maretime Bay in search of Sunny and Hitch, not wanting to be apart. They are pursued by Alphabittle and Queen Haven alongside a small crowd of Pegasi and Unicorns. Sprout arrives with a small army of Earth ponies and vows to destroy them. Sunny fetches the Unicorn and Pegasi crystals from Alphabittle and Queen Haven and heads to the lighthouse with her friends. Sunny, Izzy, and Pipp enter the observatory to unite the crystals, but Sprout causes the crystals to become lost and misplaced by ramming into the lighthouse. After some difficulty, Sunny eventually gets all three crystals in the slots, but is disheartened when nothing happens. After this, the lighthouse falls apart and Sunny and Izzy fall to the ground.

Speech (81)

Unharmed, Sunny looks at the destroyed framed picture of her and Argyle. She is sad, but realizes that the crystals would not have ended the fear and distrust. She explains that they can bring everything back by choosing love and friendship, which is the true magic. Queen Haven, Phyllis, and Argyle symbolically vow to try to restore unity and help to fix the frames around the picture.

Transformagic (86)

"Now that's what I call a Glow Up!"

This small act of unity causes the crystals to lift Sunny into the air, circle her, and bestow upon her ethereal wings and a horn. Magic is finally restored, sweeping across the land. Sunny's friends point out her new features and the group go to Maretime Bay. Sunny is delighted to see all pony kinds getting along, and the group share a "Hoof to Heart!" cheer, excited to not have to split up.

Chapter 1

In the Make Your Mark special, taking place months after the events of A New Generation, Sunny and her friends live happily in Maretime Bay, with all three pony races living together. However, Sunny is unable to control her Alicorn form, often transforming without meaning to. When tensions start to build between the three races, Sunny and her friends work to ensure they are all included in the upcoming Maretime Bay Day celebration. When tensions reach their boiling point and magic goes haywire as a result, Sunny finally manages to intentionally access her Alicorn form in order to save Posey and Windy.

Chapter 2

In Izzy Does It, Sunny is gifted a new mane accessory for her birthday by Izzy. She is also secretly given a magic compact by Misty that allows Opaline to spy on her, but she believes it to be a gift from Pipp.

In Growing Pains, she voices her disapproval of Hitch for trying to keep the Earth ponies from using their newfound magic. She is also astounded when the Unity Crystals project a warning from Twilight Sparkle.

In Portrait of a Princess, Sunny finds herself having to keep Queen Haven occupied while her daughters seek out a rare flower.

In Ali-Conned, Sunny struggles with getting ponies to believe in her causes. Opaline, using the compact to pretend to be Sunny's "inner self", manipulates her into embracing her Alicorn form to do so, but when Sunny realizes ponies only to listen to her in her Alicorn form, she is heartbroken. Her friends soon cheer her up and reveal that they made her dream of a community garden come true.

In The Cutie Mark Mix-Up, Sunny and Hitch disagree over whose responsibilities are more difficult. When their cutie marks and personalities are accidentally switched by Sparky, they decide to take on each other's jobs, with the struggle to do so giving them a newfound respect for each other.

In The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over, Sunny attends Izzy's traditional Bridlewood-themed sleepover. She tells her friends the story of how Twilight Sparkle saved magic from an evil Alicorn by creating the Unity Crystals, only to be contradicted by Misty, who has her own version. When Izzy is saddened by Misty's sudden departure, Sunny, Pipp, and Zipp cheer her up by redecorating their bedroom area to look more like Bridlewood.

In Hoof Done It?, Sunny is distraught when her lantern goes missing. She goes to Hitch for help and is on the verge of calling everypony in town for a meeting when Pipp announces that she found it.

In Have You Seen This Dragon?, Sunny attempts to alert ponies about Sparky's disappearance, but she is inadvertently sabotaged by Izzy's own efforts. She ultimately manages to bring her friends together for a coordinated search effort.

Chapter 3

In the special Winter Wishday, Sunny and her friends travel Equestria in the newly-built Mare Stream aircraft, experiencing the holiday traditions of Earth ponies, unicorns, and Pegasi. During this time, an unusual amount of snow falls, threatening to keep the group from returning home in time for Sunny to show her friends the Wishing Star as it passes over Maretime Bay. After Zipp discovers the cause of the snow to be the unicorns unknowingly casting a weather spell via an old holiday saying, Izzy provides them with a new saying that undoes the freezing weather, and they return home, where Sunny and her friends watch the Wishing Star pass by.

Chapter 4

In the special Bridlewoodstock, Sunny witnesses the "Lumi-Bloom" in Bridlewood alongside her friends. She helps Pipp with her idea to put on a music festival by convincing a retired Earth pony band, the Dreamlands, to perform. When the Troggles attack, she uses her alicorn magic to help retrieve the rubies.

In Top Remodel, Sunny asks the citizens of Maretime Bay for ideas on what to do with the shut-down Canterlogic factory. When the myriad of suggestions leaves Sunny wondering how she can possibly satisfy everypony, Izzy calms her down with some words of wisdom. Sunny then decides to remake the building into a multimedia community center called Canterlove Studios.

In The Jinxie Games, Sunny travels to Bridlewood with her friends to cheer on Hitch as he participates in Forest Critter Field Day.

In Sunny Side Up, Sunny is convinced by Pipp to film a smoothie-making show alongside Hitch at Canterlove Studios. The show goes badly at first due to Hitch's stage fright, and Pipp's attempts to keep viewers interested by introducing outlandish elements frustrates Sunny, to the point where she makes a heartfelt speech to the ponies watching at home. After finally performing the show the way she was hoping to, Sunny encourages the rest of Maretime Bay to create their own shows.

In The Manesquerade Ball, Sunny attends the anonymous ball with her friends and Misty, planning for them to perform a "Unity dance" she created. Despite her friends not having practiced enough, the dance is made a success by the group improvising.

In A Little Horse, Sunny tries to help the sick Pipp by recreating a soup Pipp was given by her mother as a filly. When her attempt fails, she tries to get the recipe from Queen Haven herself. After Haven admits that she bought the soup rather than make it herself, Sunny gets some to bring back to Maretime Bay.

In Missing the Mark, Sunny and her friends find that Sparky is missing again, and Misty leads them to Opaline's castle. There, they are captured by Opaline and learn that Misty was serving her the entire time. When the regretful Misty frees them, Sunny manages to access her Alicorn form and faces off with Opaline directly. With the cutie mark magic of her friends providing a boost, Sunny overpowers Opaline and warns the evil Alicorn to stay away from her friends.

Chapter 5

In Cutie Blossom Bash, Sunny and her friends bring Misty to Zephyr Heights so she can celebrate getting her cutie mark. Along the way, Sunny relates the story of how she got her cutie mark. After Misty admits on how uncomfortable she feels around the center of attention, Sunny and the other give her a private ceremony.

In Family Trees Pt. 1, the Mane 5 travel Misty to Bridlewood to try and decipher Misty's odd dreams. Along the way, they encounter the Breezies, to Sunny's amazement. Sunny also tells Zipp to ease off on interrogating Misty about her dreams. In Family Trees Pt. 2, Sunny and the group find a way to the Dragon Lands, which helps Sparky to recover from having his magic drained by Opaline. After returning to Bridlewood, they witness Misty reuniting with Alphabittle, who turns out to be her father.

In Father of the Bridlewood, Sunny, along with Izzy and Zipp, bring the unicorn Elder Flower to Zephyr Heights, and learn some things about Equestrian history in return.

In Mane Smelody, Sunny and Zipp find an old map that belonged to her father. Their search for more clues lead them to the Breezie Night Market, where a Breezie gave Sunny a heart-shaped locket that has supposedly been waiting for a special pony.

In Nightmare on Mane Street, Sunny tries to recreate the fun times that she had with her father for Nightmare Night. She is initially dismayed to see her guests making a mess of things, but is convicted by her friends to accept some new surprises as well. She is also present when Sparky's fire affects the map that she and Zipp found, revealing the way to the Isle of Scaly.

Chapter 6

In The Isle of Scaly, Sunny and her friends arrives at the dragons' home. They are introduced to the Dragon Lord, who turned out to be Spike (to Sunny's amazement), who relates some of Opaline's past to them. Spike and the dragons agree to work with the ponies to stop Opaline, and they depart to Maretime Bay.

In Roots of All Evil Pt. 1, Sunny's group returns home, only to find out that Opaline has corrupted the Together Trees and used them to start stealing ponies' cutie marks. After they decided to split up to defend the pony settlements while Spike and his dragons headed to Opaline's castle, Sunny watches with horror as Opaline overpowers Hitch and steals his cutie mark. In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, Sunny decides to face off against Opaline by herself, but is defeated and loses her cutie mark. At that moment, all ponykind sings in support of her which causes the locket Sunny received at the Night Market to release a magical rainbow that ensnares Opaline, helping set her in motion the returns of the cutie marks and Opaline's defeat. Afterward, Sunny and her friends look upon the fully-grown of Opaline's Together Tree, which generates a mysterious portal.

In the Secrets of Starlight special, Sunny and her friends travel through the portal, finding themselves in a mysterious snowy area known as Starlight Ridge. There, they meet the Auroricorns who seem friendly but act suspiciously. Soon, they learned that the Auroricorns are regularly under the thrall of Allura, who seeks a special star that would allow her to leave Starlight Ridge. Allura also places Sunny's friends under her control, until Sunny realizes that her spell can be broken by the magical snow of Starlight Ridge. Working together, the ponies are able to repel Allura, and Sunny and her friends return home, joined by the Auroricorn, Comet.
