Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, formatted onscreen as Roots of All Evil Pt.2 without the space after "Pt.", is the third episode in Chapter 6 of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark and the twenty-third and final episode overall. It is the second half of a two-part episode.
Synopsis[]
All the way from Zephyr Heights to Bridlewood, Opaline's on a mission to capture the last of the Cutie Mark magic. But Sunny intends to show her that true power comes from friendship, not force!
Plot[]
This next part begins with Sunny and Misty still watching over the Unity Crystals at the Crystal Brighthouse devastated over Hitch's defeat by Opaline in the previous episode. Opaline arrives at the Brighthouse with the enslaved Lava and Jade to steal Sunny's and Misty's cutie mark next. The enslaved dragons tried to break Twilight's protection spell by using their fire magic, which makes Sunny very worried if they try to break through Twilight's protection spell, Opaline tells her that there won't be no places left for them to hide. Once she has captured the rest of the Mane 5's cutie mark magic, there will be no pony else in Equestria that can stop her. As Opaline tries to enter the Brighthouse to steal the Unity Crystals, but Twilight's spell still prevents her from entering to the Brighthouse and her golden necklace with Hitch's cutie mark in it falls off.
As the dragons still trying to break through Twilight's protection, Sunny needs Misty to promise her that if she can't stop Opaline and that she needs to take the Unity Crystals but she doesn't see Misty inside the Brighthouse with her. Misty uses her magic to pick up Opaline's golden necklace, luring her and the dragons away from the Brighthouse. As Opaline tries to find her necklace, Misty hides in some boxes, revealing to Opaline that she has been sneaking around behind her back and tells her that she is no longer on her side and has been working with the Mane 5 ever since the events of Missing the Mark, much to Opaline's anger. Opaline manages to get her necklace back, but Misty manages to follow her and she and the enslaved dragons uses Maretime Bay's Together Tree to travel to Zephyr Heights and Bridlewood instead.
In Zephyr Heights, the Pegasi still scared of Opaline's wrath but Pipp and Zipp ensures everypony that everything will going to be okay. As Opaline and the dragons enter the Zephyr Heights' throne room to take the royal sisters' cutie marks next, Zoom and Thunder attempt to trying of protecting Pipp and Zipp. Pipp tries to fend Opaline off by distracting her with a song, Zipp sings along with her by trapping Opaline and the enslaved dragons in a very large tarp. However, Opaline quickly breaks out and takes both Pipp and Zipp's cutie mark, as Sunny observing the Unity Crystals back in Maretime Bay, she sees the two Prisbeam colors disappear. Misty, who has been following Opaline to Zephyr Heights, standing up to her and expressing some pity that she has endured that Opaline has spend so many years alone and hasn't never experienced true friendship. But Opaline quickly dismisses Misty's attempt of compassion, she uses her magic to bind Misty by her hooves taking her cutie mark away after noticing Misty had a cutie mark the whole time. Opaline tries to convince Misty to join back on her side, but she denies that she didn't give Misty her cutie mark that she earned it on her own by helping her friends rescuing Sparky from having his magic taken away from him, taking hers as well by creating another slot for her cutie mark, which causes another Prisbeam color to disappear.
In Bridlewood, Opaline and the enslaved dragons arrive to take Izzy's cutie mark but to find no pony except for Izzy's companion, Señor Butterscotch which Opaline mistakenly him for Izzy. Izzy surprises Opaline attacking her with her crafting supplies, making Opaline angry and ordering Jade and Lava to go after her but only to be hit by fruit and various stuff by Alphabittle and the other unicorns who attempted to fend them off. At that point, Opaline quickly endures the assault but with little effort but however Izzy momentarily fools her with a fake cutie mark. When she tried to drive away in her scooter, Opaline quickly stops her from escaping and steals her real one causing another Prisbeam color to disappear. Back in Maretime Bay, Sunny is still observing the Unity Crystals and realizes she is the only pony left whose cutie mark has not been taken.
Back in Zephyr Heights, Pipp and Zipp find Misty in front of the Together Tree, a sad Misty tells them that Opaline stole her cutie mark. Pipp tells Misty that Opaline stole everypony's cutie marks, Zipp and Pipp remind the speech of encouragement she gave to everypony in the previous episode that cutie marks are not the only things that makes them special and that no pony cannot take away of what makes them special on the inside. As Pipp and Zipp comfort Misty, the Pegasi, Zoom, Thunder, Skye and Dazzle join them outside but Zipp warns them to stay away from the tree or else risking of making Opaline stronger. However, Pipp notices that the tree's flowers glowing and questioning Zipp this: they're looking back at the picture from the castle's library depicting that the ponies are standing beneath the tree's roots. Zipp believes that the picture is showing that the Together Trees are taking power away from the ponies but upon closer inspection, Pipp realizes that the picture is just the opposite: the ponies in the picture show that they are giving their powers on the tree through their unity.
Pipp, Zipp and Misty reach out to Sunny and the rest of their friends over their phone to share their new plan: to gather all the ponies from over Equestria around at the Together Tree at their respective locations to give their power to their friendships to defeat Opaline once and for all. Sunny instructs her friends to do this: Hitch gathering all the ponies of Maretime Bay, Zipp, Pipp and Misty will gather the ponies of Zephyr Heights, and Izzy gathering the ponies of Bridlewood. While Sunny tells her friends she is going to face Opaline alone and takes her heart-shaped locket that the Breezies gave to Sunny in Mane Smelody.
At Opaline's castle, Opaline reveling in her imminent victory over the Mane 6, the ponies, Sparky and the dragons. Once Opaline takes down Sunny, she'll have last of the cutie mark magic and take the Unity Crystals as well which makes Sparky worried. As Sunny enters, she sees Sparky trapped in a magic bubble with Spike, who is still under Opaline's control. Opaline uses her magic to bind Sunny to bring her to the floor, making her angry, Sunny tries to offer Opaline one last chance to either stop the battle or give her a final chance to live in peace and harmony. Opaline dismisses Sunny's offer, that she learns that Sunny is secretly an Alicorn that power is what of the other Alicorns wants and that she demands the same thing. Sunny quickly denies Opaline's claims that they are not the same that all of Sunny wanted is: to protect her friends and understand magic better and the two engaged in a final battle.
Sparky, having been sitting on the sidelines the entire time, crawls up to Spike's face and uses his inner dragon magic to break Opaline's mind control on him. Opaline incapacitates Sunny and takes her cutie mark, stripping her of her Alicorn powers. With all the magic in Equestria now in her possession, Opaline disables all of Twilight's magical protections around Equestria, causing her cutie mark to disappear and the Unity Crystals to lose their power completely.
As all hope seems lost, the young Maretime Bay filly Seashell, starts singing a song and the other Earth ponies soon join in. Before long, the unicorns of Bridlewood and the Pegasi of Zephyr Heights are also singing. Energy from their unity flows into the Together Trees and undoes Opaline's evil corruption on them. Sunny tells Opaline that, even if she takes her cutie mark, she can never take away her hope for a better future.
Sunny's hope, coupled with the unity of everyone in Equestria, causes her heart-shaped locket to react. It bursts open, and a Rainbow of Light shoots out, wrapping around Opaline and constricting her movement. With Opaline immobilized, Spike uses his magic fire breath to teleport Sparky over to the Dragonstone, which he uses to return the cutie marks that Opaline stole and free the other dragons from her mind control. With cutie mark magic restored, the Unity Crystals return to full power.
The Together Tree in Opaline's castle starts to grow and expand, and the castle itself starts to crumble. As Spike teleports himself and his friends out, Opaline brushes her flank against the tree's growing roots, causing it to rip her cutie mark away. In her attempt to retrieve it, she gets engulfed in the tree's roots. The Together Tree fully blooms, with Opaline trapped inside and her castle reduced to ruins.
With Opaline finally defeated, the dragons' magic is fully restored, and Sparky gives the Dragon Stone to Spike. Spike uses his fire breath to teleport Sunny's friends to their location, and they commend her bravery for facing Opaline alone. Now that Sparky has fulfilled his role of saving the dragons, Hitch wonders if it is time for him to leave Maretime Bay; Spike lets Sparky decide for himself, and he decides to stay with Hitch, saying his first word "home".
Spike and the dragons bid farewell to the Mane 6, promising that they will see each other again soon, and return to the Isle of Scaly. As the Mane 6 behold the beauty of the true form of Opaline's Together Tree, a portal suddenly opens in front of it and glittery snowflakes come flying out. When Izzy touches one, she becomes magically covered in glitter and crystal jewelry.
