Opaline's Dark Castle was a location in Equestria. It was first seen briefly in the Make Your Mark special and it was shown being outside of the series. It is later destroyed in Roots of All Evil Pt. 2. It was the home to Opaline Arcana and where Misty Brightdawn previously lived. It is northwest from Maretime Bay and west from Bridlewood.
History[]
It was the fifth settlement introduced in Generation 5. It was also the third castle introduced after Zephyr Heights and Canterlot. It is shown to be near Maretime Bay, but doesn't appear to have any influence over the city. It's unknown how old the castle is or if it was built by Opaline herself or taken by her from another sovereignty. It is shown to be built on the side of a hill, making it well defensible.
In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, the Together Tree inside the castle gets magic from all over Equestria. The tree grows rapidly and destroys the castle entirely while trapping Opaline inside.
In The Lone Alicorn, Sunny and Zipp discover inside the remains of Opaline's castle looking for more details about Alicorns. The last remains of the castle is now demolished to the Raccoonicorns' dance party shaking till the castle is fully destroyed and fallen apart.
Interior[]
The interior does hold some tree trunks and tree branches, later revealed to be a Together Tree.
Hence its name, the interior of the castle is quite dark, in opposing contrast to the well-lit Royal Palace in Zephyr Heights. From what is briefly seen, the castle is well maintained in contrast to the long abandoned Canterlot.
There is a throne room for Opaline includes her magic projector which allows her to observe the rest of Equestria through a bird's eye view. Her magic cauldron in located in the middle of the room for which she can do everything from create rare plants from nothing and even synthesize animal life.
The Castle also has many bewitched items such as ever-burning torches for light and mirrors to allow her to spy on her enemies.
Misty's room is quite simple with a round bed and one window where she has lived ever since she was a filly after Opaline revealed in Roots of All Evil Pt. 1 that she kidnapped Misty as a filly just to grow the tree.
Trivia[]
- It's possible that Opaline's Dark Castle is a reference to Lord Tirek's Midnight Castle, the setting of the very first media content of My Little Pony in 1984, Escape from Midnight Castle.
