My Little Pony #14 is the fourteenth issue of IDW's My Little Pony comic series.
In the issue, Izzy Moonbow's crafting protégé Violette Rainbow visits Maretime Bay for a sleepover weekend and ends up feeling self-conscious about her spotty coat.
Plot[]
Izzy is eagerly expecting a visit from her old crafting student Violette Rainbow for a sleepover weekend. When Violette arrives, Izzy offers to introduce her to the rest of the Mane 5; Violette is nervous about meeting new ponies and worries how they will react to her patchy, vitiligo-like appearance, but Izzy assures her that her friends are nice and very eager to meet her. She also tells Violette that she is available if she ever needs to talk. As Izzy shows Violette around Maretime Bay, Violette inadvertently causes some unrest, not just due to how she looks but also her clumsiness.
At Sunny's community garden, she accidentally splashes water in a gardener's face, and her patchy coat scares him off. At Sunny's smoothie cart, Violette meets Sunny and samples her smoothies, but she knocks over a fruit stand, angering Posey. Finally, at Mane Melody, when Izzy knocks Violette's smoothie out of her hoof, Violette catches the cup with her magic, but the smoothie spills out and falls onto an electric wall socket, causing a small fire. Both Posey and Pipp blame Violette for the fire, and as Izzy and Pipp argue, Violette runs off in tears.
While crying by herself, Violette is found by a pair of zebras: Mariama and her daughter Skye. The two sympathize with Violette's plight of being bullied because of how she looks, and Mariama tells of how she suffered similar prejudice when she was a filly. Despite Mariama eventually overcoming said prejudice, Violette is desperate to change the way she looks so that she can fit in with other ponies. Mariama gives Violette a potion to achieve this and instructs her to use it only in small doses, but she also warns Violette that she cannot control how other ponies think.
Against Mariama's instructions, Violette drinks the entire potion at once. It gives her a normal-looking coat at first, but it soon changes her coat into a random assortment of patterns, making her appear even more strange to others. Back at Mane Melody, Pipp apologizes to Izzy for blaming Violette for the fire just as Violette returns. Violette fears repercussions for the trouble she has caused, but Izzy repeats that Violette can talk to her about anything, and Pipp apologizes to Violette for blaming and judging her earlier.
Just then, Mariama and Skye enter; it is revealed that their meeting Violette earlier was not by chance but rather deliberately planned by Izzy. They give Violette another potion to reverse the effects of the first one. Violette befriends Skye, and Pipp gives Violette a makeover by dyeing different colors in her mane. Before Violette leaves, Sunny shows her a book about an ancient race of ponies called "paint ponies" who practiced artistic healing magic and had coats similar to Violette's, suggesting Violette may be descended from them.
Later, Izzy escorts Violette back to her house in Bridlewood, gives her a friendship necklace, and reminds her to always be proud of who she is, regardless of how other ponies see and treat her.
