For Minty, see Minty.

Misty Brightdawn[1] is a female unicorn pony and one of the main characters of the fifth generation of My Little Pony after the events of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark Chapter 4. She is the former assistant and adoptive daughter of Opaline. In Chapter 5 of Make Your Mark, she is revealed to be the long-lost daughter of Alphabittle. After Opaline's defeat in Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, Misty is now currently living at the Crystal Brighthouse in Maretime Bay with her friends. She represents the element of empathy (often referred to as heart).

Personality[]

Because she was raised in isolation, Misty does not really know how to be social with other ponies. She speaks a little softly a lot, a sign that she had been sheltered ever since that fateful day.

She is very scared of her own adoptive mother when she snaps at her and calls her insults such as 'nothing' and 'useless'. Misty has some cunning attributes, like being able to infiltrate Maretime Bay multiple times and even luring Pipp and Zipp into a huge cave and trap them there (only temporarily). But Misty seems to be happier when in the presence of Sunny and her friends, but with being around the evil pony, she appears very nervous and quiet.

Despite her allegiance to Opaline, Misty appears to be opposite to the Alicorn: kind-hearted and innocent, a sign that she assists Opaline mostly out of fear, loyalty to her adoptive mother, and naivety.

In the Make Your Mark Chapter Five episode, Family Trees Pt. 2, it is revealed that she is Alphabittle's long-lost daughter. It is also revealed that Misty used to enjoy painting and singing in public; however, her years of isolation and treatment by Opaline have given her anti-social behavior, as she’s now scared to sing in public and doesn’t remember painting at all.

In Make Your Mark Chapter 6, Misty is shown to be sympathetic towards others who feel powerless and have been controlled by others, such as Allura and gives them courage to stand up for themselves along with her friends by using her past experience with Opaline.

Appearance[]

Misty is a slender, maya-blue-coated unicorn mare, having freckles on her cheeks and her fetlocks, insides of her ears, as well as her chest to her stomach, being colored in a lavender-pink. She possesses mint-green eyes, small yet fluttery-like eyelashes, hale-navy eyebrows, grayish-purple hooves, as well as a kinky, navy-blue mane and tail with teal-green highlights, with her mane being swooped to her right side with three cornrows on the left side of her scalp. As per her pony type, she possesses a long, bumpy horn with a sky-blue and lavender-pink gradient, complete with a pattern of pink swirls around it.

Before Make Your Mark Chapter 4: Misty did not have a cutie mark. However, in order to blend in, she drew one of a butterfly with navy-blue outlines, complete with lavender-pink accents, as well as a small, lavender-pink heart on top.

As of Chapter 4, Misty finally received a cutie mark as a reward for freeing the Mane Five: a butterfly with its body colored in a coral-pink, with its dark purple and magenta-pink wings having magenta and coral-pink spots. To match her cutie mark, Misty also had her mane and tail dyed to a gradient of two-tone purple and hot pink, with noticeable tips of coral-orange. Along with her new appearance, she now wears a friendship bracelet on her left hoof that Izzy made for her in The Manesquerade Ball, which has the Mane 5's cutie marks printed on its pendants.

In My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, the teal-green streaks in Misty's previous mane color are thicker, due to the more simplistic art style. During the episodes she appeared in, she initially wore a necklace with dark purple diamonds adorning the string. Her necklace also features a large, golden mirror-like pendant that, when opened, reveals Opaline's coat and eye color before letting out a mist with a holographic-like version of her in it, suggesting that it is a way to communicate with Misty.

When she was a filly, Misty kept her mane in afro puffs with a few coiled bangs peeking out.

History[]

Misty is the daughter of Alphabittle and was living in Bridlewood as a filly. When Misty was just a filly, Opaline brought her to her castle with the intention of causing the Together Tree she had planted to grow in order for her to cross the magical barrier of Twilight. Because of that, Misty has lived with her in the Dark Castle ever since that day. Because Opaline would bully Misty so she would remain complacent to her, the latter was never able to make her true self shine and never developed a cutie mark as a result, but she has always longed for one.

When magic returns to Equestria, Misty is sent by Opaline to spy on Maretime Bay. While there, she discovers that Earth Ponies have new magic that can grow plants and also secretly leaves a magic mirror at Sunny's smoothie store.

When she returns to the Dark Castle and reports to Opaline what she has discovered, Misty suggests that if Opaline gives her a Cutie Mark, she could understand magic better. Opaline assures Misty that she will be given a cutie mark once Opaline has her full power back.

On May 19, 2023, the official YouTube channel uploaded a short of Tell Your Tale, showing Misty with a proper cutie mark and with the light green parts of her mane having changed to orange and pink.[2] Although the short was uploaded 2 weeks prior to Make Your Mark Chapter 4, footage checks of the short with Content ID indicated it was a clip from Sparkle School scheduled for 2 months after Chapter 4, indicating that events in Chapter 4 have caused those changes to her.

When she brought Sparky to Opaline in Missing the Mark, she felt guilty about what she'd done and went to get the Mane Five; however, she unknowingly led them into a trap in which Opaline trapped them in a magic cancellation bubble, and Opaline revealed to them about Misty working with her all along, which made them all upset and angry with her, leaving Misty at a crossroads about what to do next. In the end, she chose to help her friends since they showed her kindness and treated her like a friend rather than a tool like Opaline does.

Misty adds that she'd rather 'wants to be a pony without a cutie mark forever than go another day as a pony who does the wrong thing'. Misty freed the Mane Five, allowing real friendship into her heart, and her actions earned her a cutie mark.

Misty had the Mane Five 'pretend' to tie her up as a trap for Opaline and a plan to rescue Sparky, leading to a battle between her and Sunny, which Sunny won thanks to the Unity Magic from her friends and Misty, which defeated Opaline but only for a short while.

Now Misty has magic, which she now hides from Opaline along with her cutie mark. She went to the Brighthouse and apologized for everything she'd done. She states they helped make her whom she should have been the entire time, and she joins the Mane Five to find a way to defeat Opaline officially becoming the sixth member and making the Mane Five the Mane Six of Generation 5.

My Little Pony: Make Your Mark[]

Chapter 1[]

Ice screenshot 20220727-230007

At the ending of the Make Your Mark special, she is seen next to her Alicorn mistress Opaline as she laughs.

Chapter 2[]

Misty takes a more active role in this chapter. Opaline sends her out to do her bidding, such as spying on Sunny Starscout and her friends or reporting about the new magic in Equestria. She ends up making friends with the main group, although Zipp still finds her actions and stories to be suspicious.

Chapter 4[]

In Top Remodel, Misty spies on Zipp, learns about the message from Twilight Sparkle, and relays it to Opaline. She also creates a companion for herself named "Madame Taffytail" and vents her indecisions to it. In The Jinxie Games, Misty is sent by Opaline to capture Sparky but finds the Brighthouse empty due to its occupants being in Bridlewood. Misty gets a chance to take Sparky without being noticed but chooses not to. In Sunny Side Up, Misty is punished for her constant failures by being literally "grounded" by Opaline's magic. During this time, she watches Sunny and Hitch's cooking show and realizes that she can't keep serving Opaline.

In The Manesquerade Ball, Misty is invited to the ball by Izzy. While there, she follows Zipp into the Zephyr Heights archives. When Zipp catches her, Misty confesses to not having a cutie mark. She also joins Sunny and her friends in their "unity dance" and tears out several pages from a book on Alicorns that Zipp found to keep her from learning about Opaline. In A Little Horse, Misty visits a sick Pipp by Zipp. She gives Pipp a present which is a manebrush. Misty goes back to Opaline, she tells her that Pipp and Zipp are getting closer to figure out on who she is, much to Opaline's anger. Opaline has no choice, but to kidnap Sparky to get more Dragonfire for herself. In Missing the Mark, Misty finally succeeds in snatching Sparky for Opaline. But when she learns Opaline intends to drain all of Sparky's magic, she decides to lead Sunny and the others to the castle. This leads to Opaline capturing the five and revealing Misty's allegiance to her. Overcome with guilt, Misty frees her friends, earning her a cutie mark in the process. She also pretends to have been overpowered by them, allowing her to spy on Opaline for her new friends.

Chapter 5[]

In Cutie Blossom Bash, Misty is brought to Zephyr Heights by her friends to take part in a ceremony that celebrates ponies getting their cutie marks. She struggles with the idea of being in the spotlight (especially since she is the oldest pony there by a wide margin) and ultimately confesses this to her friends, who decide to hold a private ceremony for her. The party ended, resulting in a new Together Tree in Zephyr Heights. Afterwards, Misty decides to return to Opaline's castle and act as a double agent, gathering information for her new friends.

In Family Trees Pt. 1, Misty starts having vivid dreams of getting lost as a filly, driving her friends to bring her to Bridlewood in hopes of finding answers. Misty's cutie mark magic inadvertantly brings the Breezies out of hiding, leading to the discovery of the Breezies' Night Market. While there, Misty is given a magic key that can take her to wherever she wants (but can only be used once), and once again gets lost. In Family Trees Pt. 2, Misty finds her way back to her friends. She chooses to use the key to open a way to the Dragon Lands so Sparky can fully recover from having his magic drained by Opaline. Upon their return, Pipp shows her a picture of herself, Zipp, Queen Haven, and Alphabittle. Upon seeing the picture, Misty remembers that Alphabittle is her father and joyfully reunites with him.

In Father of the Bridlewood, Misty spends the day with Alphabittle, but is uncomfortable with all the activities he brings her into. After she finally admits to him how she feels, the two agree to start over, and Alphabittle arranges for Misty's friends to make a room for her at the Brighthouse.

In Mane Smelody, Misty listens to Opaline describing her plan to drain the dragons of their magic and possess the Dragon Lands, and she races over to Maretime Bay to inform her friends. In Nightmare on Mane Street, Misty celebrates Nightmare Night with her friends, with most of it spent withstanding Pipp's attempts to scare her. She is also present when Sparky's fire accidentally uncovers a map to the dragons' home, the Isle of Scaly, and notes that they need to warn the dragons of Opaline's impending arrival.

Chapter 6[]

In The Isle of Scaly, Misty attends Dragon Lands along with her friends and helps Izzy and Pipp attempted to repair the Mare Stream without success. She is later taken to Maretime Bay on Luxxe.

In Roots of All Evil Pt. 1, Opaline tells of Misty's involvement with the Together Tree she has in her castle. After kidnapping Misty during her childhood, Opaline hoped her tree would grow by finding someone who could understand. However, the Together Tree never grew because Opaline's friendship with Misty was never real or sincere. Years later, when Misty befriended the Mane Five indirectly, the small spark of unity and friendship she would have with them was more than enough to activate the tree's power. This power was assimilated by the rest of the Together Trees to ensure Opaline's victory over the ponies. Misty never meant anything to Opaline, she was only used as an instrument for greater evil.

Misty is aware of this situation and apologizes to Sunny at Crystal Brighthouse. Misty's trauma from Opaline is enough to sense Opaline's presence on the way to Crystal Brighthouse. After Hitch's defeat, Sunny tasks Misty with protecting the Unity Crystals as a last defense.

In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, Misty finally confronts Opaline in front of her Together Tree after revealing she’s no longer on her side and trying to steal the necklace but failing, disgusting Opaline. In an attempt to persuade Opaline, Misty continues to tell her that she still knows true friendship and feels sorry for her, expressing empathy for her loneliness. Opaline doesn't listen to reason and, after being rejected by Misty, cruelly takes her cutie mark as well.

Misty joins the ponies of Zephyr Heights in giving their friendship to the Together Trees, which purifies them, and together, Opaline is finally defeated for good, sealed powerlessly inside of her Together Tree thanks to Sparky’s spell.

With Opaline defeated, Misty severs all ties she had to her tragic past and finally finds peace and freedom with her friends.

In Secrets of Starlight, a magical portal appears near the Together Tree at Opaline's Castle, and the Mane Six enters it to investigate. Misty and her friends meet Starlight Ridge and its inhabitants, the Auroricorns and enjoy Starshine Time, as do the rest of the team, Violet Frost and Comet. With the arrival of Allura, the evil snow leopard, Misty joins forces with Pipp and Sunny to rescue the Nova Charm from Twitch, her servant.

After breaking out of Allura's trance thanks to Sunny and Violet Frost, Misty inspires the Auroricorns to rebel against Allura, understanding the situation they face and demonstrating her characteristic trait, empathy. The Mane Six temporarily defeated Allura and returned to Equestria with Comet. Misty states that without Opaline and Allura's presence, things in Equestria will now be more fun.

In Pony-Kind Parade-emonium, Misty causes chaos during the Ponykind Parade by inducing rage and hunger in Maretime Bay's critters.

In Sunny's Smoothie Moves, she helps the Mane 5 save Maretime Bay from Sunny's malfunctioning smoothie-making robot. In Mission Imponable, she attempts to steal the Unity Crystals in a skydiving heist but ultimately fails. In Opaline Alone, Misty spends the day having fun with the Mane 5 as part of an "important task" to bring Opaline a smoothie. In As the Misty Clears, after Opaline exerts her dark influence over the Mane 5 via her necklace, Misty shatters the necklace into pieces.

In I've Seen Fire and I've Seen Rain(Bows), Misty is present as her friends recap the events of Missing the Mark to Jazz Hooves. She still feels guilt over helping Opaline, but the others assure her that she proved herself to be a good pony when it counted. After the story concludes, Misty looks worriedly out of Mane Melody's window, concerned about Opaline's next move. In Hot Day, Huh?, Misty feels sorry for Zipp after everypony ignores her suggestion to spend an unusually hot day at the beach, and she joins Zipp for a day of fun together.

Season 2[]

In Icy Prints, Izzy and Misty greet Zipp who is flying through Maretime Bay when playing jump rope with Señor Butterscotch and Madame Taffytail. Later along with the Mane 6, she mentioned her strong heart to help protect Maretime Bay.

In Heavy is the Mane that Wears the Fruit Crown, Misty didn't know the festival of Carnival but the magic helps her dress up with a costume. Pipp's Carnival crown is too large, so Misty and Izzy come up with a plan to help her.

In Cake Dragon, Misty and the Mane 6 celebrate Sparky's birthday.

In Misty-rious New Room, Misty discovers a mysterious room with windows depicting events from long ago. Trying to search for a way to get out of the room, Misty interacts with various objects and causes chaos in the Brighthouse. Fearing that she will never find a way to get out, Misty touches her horn to the floor in frustration, which in turn causes a pedestal with the book "Art of Spelling" to appear. After following its instructions, a mysterious voice speaks to Misty and informs her that she can come and go to this room as she pleases, and one of the book's pages folds into a butterfly and binds itself to her cutie mark. Misty promises to return soon so that she can learn all from the spell book before the doorway closes again.

In Swirlpool Starlight, after stepping into the Swirlpool, Misty is frightened and leaves the Swirlpool due to being confronted by her past as Opaline's servant. Comforted by her friends, despite fearing judgment, Misty steps into the Swirlpool again, revealing a bright future filled with friendship.
