Make Your Mark is the first special episode that serves as a sequel to My Little Pony: A New Generation, while serving as the series premiere of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark. Written by Gillian Berrow and directed by William Lau, it premiered on May 26, 2022 on Netflix. The special's and the show's release are being divided into chapters, with the special being "Chapter 1". It is one of four 44-minute specials produced for the show by Atomic Cartoons.[1]
Synopsis[]
The special picks up from the movie where the Mane 5 are learning to live with each other and their new powers.[2]
When Zipp realizes that the power of the crystals are fading, she goes on a mission to figure out why.[3]
Now that magic has returned, Sunny and her friends must convince the Earth Ponies of Maretime Bay that Equestria is better with it, than without it.[4]
Plot[]
Months after magic has returned to Equestria, Sunny Starscout and her new pony friends are excited to celebrate their new lives on the Maretime Bay Day holiday. While their group may have adjusted to magic's return, plenty of unicorns and pegasi are still having trouble mastering their powers, frustrating the non-magical Earth ponies who wish to return to how things were before.
The division between pony tribes worries Zipp, who notices that the Unity Crystals have begun glitching, disrupting magic for everyone. Zipp begins investigating, discovering the glitches seem to be happening more, their chaos further dividing the ponies of Maretime Bay. She tries to convince her friends that the Unity Crystals are acting unusual, but they think she is worrying over nothing and do not believe her.
They witness a pegasus falling out of the sky onto an Earth pony themselves, and this spurs outrage from the Earth Ponies, who threaten to boycott Maretime Bay Day if the town is not made a magic-free zone. Now on her side, Zipp explains to her friends her discovery that magic is glitching when ponies are not treating each other with kindness. Their mission now is to throw such an amazing Bay Day that everypony comes together in harmony to stabilize magic again.
But as the Earth Ponies air their frustrations with the inclusion of pegasi and unicorns in a holiday they see as their own, the glitches escalate, bringing about a massive magical storm that threatens to swallow the town. In the end, it is only the power of Sunny and her friends working together that saves the day.
As magic stabilizes, the earth ponies discover they now too have magical abilities, specifically those controlled by their hooves. Feeling included and having seen the error of their ways, they apologize and come together with the Unicorns and pegasi in harmony to celebrate the rest of Maretime Bay Day together. [5]
Unknown to the ponies of Maretime Bay, the events they went through had been observed via a magical projector by a mysterious magenta Alicorn and her blue-coated unicorn associate from an undisclosed, dark location. The Alicorn declared that with the ponies finally stabilizing magic throughout Equestria, it was time for them to reclaim whatever she determined rightfully belonged to her. She then laughed maniacally, signaling that whatever her intentions were, they would not be righteous. The Alicorn's claim prompts the audience to wait for future episodes to determine what she feels entitled to.
