With a name like hers, Sunny Starscout can’t help but feel a bit bummed about summer coming to an end. After all, summer in Maretime Bay means getting together with friends in beautiful warm weather to enjoy tons of fun activities like swimming at the beach and picking the juiciest of berries, not to mention it’s the best time of the year for a smoothie! When Sunny’s friends notice how upset she is, they come together to show her that even though the season is changing, the fun doesn’t have to end!

The comic begins with Sunny looking at photos of herself and her father Argyle Starshine in a photo album. When she sees a butterfly enter the Crystal Brighthouse and fly out a window into the warm summer weather, Sunny gets the idea of having a summer outing of food and games with the rest of the Mane 5.
However, a cold breeze suddenly blows, and a leaf falls onto Sunny's book, indicating to her that summer is almost over and souring her good mood. As the Mane 5 discuss their plans for the next day, Sunny's friends notice her sudden change in mood, and Zipp Storm quickly deduces that it has to do with the impending change in weather. At Hitch Trailblazer's suggestion, the ponies decide to cheer Sunny up.
The next day, as Sunny closes up shop at her smoothie stand, the rest of the Mane 5 set up roadblocks on the path leading to the Crystal Brighthouse and force her to take a different path with several stopping points on it. At the first stopping point, Hitch reminds Sunny of her favorite fall season activities, like carving pumpkins, making candy apples, dressing up for Nightmare Night, and playing in piles of leaves. While she is still bummed about summer nearly ending, Sunny feels a little better than she did earlier.
At the second stopping point, Zipp and Pipp Petals remind Sunny of her favorite winter activities, such as snowball fights and enjoying hot chocolate. Sunny slowly starts to realize that she has been stubborn about not letting summer go, and once again, she feels a little better than before. At the third stopping point, Izzy Moonbow reminds Sunny of her favorite springtime activities, including enjoying freshly blooming flower gardens and making flower crowns. By the end of this little road detour, Sunny seems fully cheered up from her bad mood.
The next day – the last day of summer – Sunny's friends show up to surprise her and invite her out for one last summer outing before the season officially changes to fall. Sunny realizes that the reason she did not want summer to end was because of all the summer memories she used to make with her father. The rest of the Mane 5 make it clear to Sunny that they will never replace her father and will help her keep his memory alive by making and sharing new memories with her. The comic ends with the Mane 5 enjoying the last day of summer with jet-skiing and paragliding on the water.
