Hoof Done It? is the seventh episode in Chapter 2 of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark and the seventh episode overall. The title is play on the phrase "whodunnit".
Synopsis[]
Detective Zipp is on the case to find a thief when Sunny's magic lantern goes missing. Misty seems to be the prime suspect... or is she?
Plot[]
Shortly after the events of The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over, Misty obtains Sunny Starscout's lantern and attempts to make off with it while the other ponies are asleep, but she trips over a shovel in the community garden. The noise briefly wakes up Zipp Storm, who catches a brief but unclear glimpse of someone in the garden. The next morning, she discovers the lantern missing. After she and Sunny fail to find it anywhere in the Crystal Brighthouse, Zipp decides to launch a full investigation to locate it.
Zipp finds a ring of dirt on the nightstand next to Sunny's bed - dirt originating from the garden - as well as a trail of dirt leading downstairs, where she informs Pipp Petals of the lantern's disappearance. As she leaves the Brighthouse, Pipp stumbles upon the lantern in a bag sticking out of a shallow hole in the garden. She goes to tell Zipp that the lantern is no longer missing, but when she sees how much fun Zipp is having being a detective, she decides to keep the lantern for a little longer. She leaves a hoofprint and some glitter where she found the lantern as a "clue" for Zipp to find.
When Misty goes to retrieve the lantern from where she buried it, she discovers it gone. Zipp finds her in the garden and, upon seeing the hoofprint and glitter Pipp left, is determined to find the lantern thief. Misty, believing Zipp suspects her, runs off. Meanwhile, Sunny, wanting to assist in Zipp's search for the lantern without getting in the way of her investigation, deduces that the lantern relies on the power of the Unity Crystals and believes gathering enough ponies together in harmony will light the lantern up like a beacon.
Zipp's investigation leads her to the filly trio Seashell, Glory, and Peach Fizz, who are wearing flowers from the community garden in their manes. When pressed about what they were doing the night before, they confess that they were up late watching Pipp's internet videos. As Zipp believes her investigation has hit a dead end, she runs into Izzy Moonbow, who reveals she saw the lantern the previous night.
Sunny approaches Hitch Trailblazer and asks him to call a town meeting in order to gather a large crowd of ponies together. Hitch wonders if informing ponies that the lantern is missing is a good idea, but Sunny is still worried about the evil magic-stealing force that Princess Twilight Sparkle warned them about. With Hitch occupied looking after Sparky, Sunny borrows his megaphone.
Zipp interrogates Izzy about the lantern; Izzy explains that she occasionally suffers from insomnia and that she used the lantern to collect tea leaves from the garden and made tea to help herself sleep. When she was done, she put the lantern back on Sunny's nightstand (explaining the trail and ring of dirt). Without any additional leads or clues, Zipp returns to the garden. When she catches Misty sneaking around, Misty runs away again, and this time, Zipp gives chase.
Zipp pursues Misty through Maretime Bay, and while Misty briefly loses her at the Mane Melody salon, she very quickly gets caught. Zipp accuses Misty of stealing the lantern, having had suspicions about her since the sleepover, but Pipp jumps in and confesses to taking the lantern herself and leaving clues to lead Zipp to her. Realizing she was wrong, Zipp apologizes to Misty for accusing her; Misty forgives Zipp but runs away again before she gets too suspicious. Inspired by Zipp's detective work, Pipp shows her a music video she made with Seashell, Glory, and Peach Fizz, set to the song Where'd it Go?.
As Sunny dashes through town trying to gather ponies together in an attempt to find her missing lantern, Pipp and Zipp stop her and reveal they already found it, and Pipp apologizes for not telling Sunny from the start that she took it. As the Mane 5 share a laugh, the lantern glows bright in Sunny's hoof, confirming her theory that it harnesses magic from ponies united in harmony. Zipp asks Sunny if she can conduct some scientific testing on the lantern, and Sunny allows.
Misty returns to Opaline's castle and informs her of her failure to steal the lantern. An angered Opaline berates Misty for failing another mission; when she once again dangles the promise of receiving a cutie mark in Misty's face, Misty begs Opaline for another chance. However, Opaline decides to give up on the lantern and sets her sights on a new target: Sparky Sparkeroni and his magic dragonfire.
