This is a summary of Generation 4 of My Little Pony. For a more in-depth look, check out the page on the My Little Wiki for Generation 4.
Generation 4 (shorthand: G4) was the fifth incarnation of the My Little Pony franchise. It began in late 2010 and was distributed until late 2019.
Toys[]
There are over 50 different characters to collect. The toyline began similarly to previous generations in that there were a wider variety of characters available at the start, however shifted into a more character-driven toyline as time went on, similar to Generation 3. Releases of repeat characters are either almost indistinguishable from one another or resemble Generation 3.5 with different hair colors and extra printing.
Media[]
There was one show, titled My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, well-known for its large adult following, typically referred to as 'Bronies'. with an interlinked movie, two specials, a handful of shorts, and a few webseries. There was also a spinoff movie franchise called Equestria Girls which also holds a slew of specials. There are many books that expand upon the show's canon, as well as a comic series that serves as a parallel canon to the show.
With Respect to Generation 5[]
References[]
The setting of Equestria borrows its name from the setting of generation 4 and is meant to be a future version of it in comparison to Friendship is Magic's timeline. The characters of Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity are all directly inspired by the Friendship is Magic characterizations and storyline.
Appearances in G5[]
Quite a few appearances have occured. Argyle Starshine's stories to his daughter Sunny Starscout of how the Mane 6 were like prior to Friendship is Magic S9E26, ignited her activism in My Little Pony: A New Generation. Opaline were known to live at the same time Twilight Sparkle did, with the latter also appearing as a video recording in My Little Pony: Make Your Mark Chapter 2.
Friendship is Magic characters and locations make up a majority of the plot elements in the first 10 G5-branded comic issues, to the point where G5 elements ended up being lower prioritized.
In Misty-rious New Room, Misty discovers a room in Crystal Brighthouse, with glass panes featuring events of Nightmare Moon, Discord and Queen Chrysalis.
In Written in the Starscouts, Sunny's Mom's stories to her daughter Sunny were aware of Twilight Sparkle's reign, where the three pony tribes lived together in harmony.
In Emotional Rollercoaster, the Boardtrot has games with Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy as plushes inside of a ball.
Fluttershy appeared as a cameo in a fountain in Set Your Sail Issue 4.
Friendship is Magic characters and locations appeared in My Little Pony: The Storm of Zephyr Heights.
