This is a summary of Generation 2 of My Little Pony. For a more in-depth look, check out the page on the My Little Wiki for Generation 2.
Generation 2 (shorthand: G2) was the second incarnation of the My Little Pony toyline. It began in 1997 and was distributed until 2003, although most areas ceased distribution after 1998, making most of the ponies released European exclusives.
There are over 120 different characters to collect. The toyline was less character-focused than Generation 3.5 and beyond, and as such there is a much larger variety of ponies to pick from, however there were more re-releases when compared to Generation 1
There was no animated media produced for G2 and the closest sort of animated media was a PC game, My Little Pony: Friendship Gardens. There is confusion among more show-centric circles about the show My Little Pony Tales and it's generational status. Despite the show's rerunning during the period in which Generation 2 was available, there are Generation 1-style toys of the characters that were distributed in European areas, and as such the show is decidedly part of Generation 1. Furthermore, some DVD releases of other G1 media featured G2 style ponies on the cover, which caused more confusion.
