G5 My Little Pony Wiki

Argyle Starshine was a male Earth pony in the fifth generation of My Little Pony. He is the late father of Sunny Starscout and the husband of his wife. His cause of death remains unknown. Not much is known about Argyle's family other than he had ancestry going back ten generations to a time when friendship and harmony were maintained in Equestria.

Personality[]

Argyle was a good-hearted earth pony who studied the history of Twilight Sparkle and her friends and, just like his daughter, believed that earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi could be friends again one day.

Unlike the other earth ponies, Argyle paid no mind to the supposed "history" that demonized the other pony tribes and made sure to share his own beliefs and wisdom with his daughter, Sunny, raising her to hope and believe that ponykind could be united in friendship and harmony as they once were. Despite being disparaged and disbelieved by others, like Phyllis Cloverleaf, Argyle never got angry or frustrated by his fellow earth ponies' bigotry and misguided beliefs, rather pitying them and feeling sad that they wouldn't open their hearts and minds to something better than fear and distrust.

Argyle was a warm and loving father, fondly remembered by his daughter long after his passing, and she strove to see Argyle's dream fulfilled despite the naysayers and odds she faced, ultimately succeeding in bringing ponykind back together, honoring her father's memory and legacy.

Appearance[]

He had a light blue coat, a royal blue mane and tail with white and purple streaks, cornflower-blue hooves, and purple eyes. His eyebrows and sideburns were dark violet. He used to wear dark maroon-rimmed glasses and a wooden pendant hollowed out with the outline of Twilight Sparkle's cutie mark. His cutie mark was a yellow shooting star.

A standoff with Phyllis

Argyle has many artifacts from the time of the Guardians of Friendship around his house, and it is implied he studies them. He is painting a wooden craft when his daughter, Sunny, tells off her playmates Hitch and Sprout for making the Unicorns and Pegasi fight. He gently sends the colts back home as Phyllis enters his house, scolding Sprout for leaving without permission. Phyllis is skeptical and hostile towards Argyle for (perceived) brainwashing of the colts, and Argyle regards her politely and shoots down her accusations.

Sending off the lantern

After Phyllis leaves, Sunny is still upset for not being believed. Argyle insists she continue to stick up for her beliefs and dons a Unicorn headband. The two play until Sunny gets an idea to write a letter to the other kinds and invite them to Maretime Bay. On Sunny's request, he tells her the story of Twilight Sparkle again (although Sunny knows all the words). The story concludes and Argyle gives her the woodcraft from earlier: A nightlight that projects all the kinds of ponies onto the walls of Sunny's bedroom. As Sunny drifts off, she asks why all the kinds can't get along anymore, and he says that he doesn't know, but maybe they will find out one day.

In memoriam

Argyle eventually passed away some time after the prologue. His glasses, pendant, and a framed photo are on his old desk and a larger framed photo of both him and Sunny is kept on the wall by the door. The frame of Sunny and him was damaged during the attack on the lighthouse. Queen Haven, Alphabittle, and Phyllis each put one piece of the broken frame together as a sign of reunitement with the other kinds.

My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale[]

Season 1[]

TYT ep24 (27)

In "Starscout Code", a video as a young colt he inherited his family's blanket which depicted a prophetic scene of Equestria reuniting thanks to the endeavors of five ponies.

At some point, Argyle had a family of his own and welcomed his daughter Sunny into the world. Realizing the blanket foretold that she would be the one to restore friendship to the land, Argyle set about making sure Sunny would be well prepared for her adventures. He eventually hid three pieces of the blanket, one in Maretime Bay's Lighthouse, one in Zephyr Heights' palace and one in Bridlewood's swamps for Sunny to find and stitch back together. In the event anything ever happened to him, he made a video about the importance of the blanket and Sunny's mission to bring together her 'family' to accompany her.

Season 2[]

In "Misty-rious New Room", Sunny is seen cleaning Argyle's picture as Misty drops onto to her. In "Written in the Starscouts", he appears in flashbacks in Sunny's childhood memories. He and his wife encourage young Sunny to jump down from the tree branch so they can catch her, and tell her that they're proud of her. Argyle reminds Sunny that her mother will always be watching over her from the stars. In "Attack of the Vending Machine", one of the silhouetted ponies around the new vending machine at the Boardtrot matches his Tell Your Tale design's silhouette.

  • In French, Argyle is referred to by Phyllis as Harry (Sunny only refers to him as "Papa").
  • In the concept art by the designer Celia Kaspar in now-deleted Instagram post (before the concept art was put on her website) and Sunny Starscout's Book of Adventure official guidebook, his full name is Argyle Starscout, which it is incorrect.
  • Because of his death some time after the prologue, Argyle doesn't appear in person for the rest of the movie.
